European Respiratory Monograph Lung Transplantation Edited by J. Boe is Professor of Medicine at the University of Oslo, Norway, and Associate Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Lund, Sweden. Since 1990, he has been a Consultant Physician, and from 1990–2002, he was Director of the Dept of Thoracic Medicine at the National Hospital Rikshospitalet, Oslo, Norway. He has been involved in the area of lung transplantation since the transplantation programme began in Scandinavia in the early 1990s. His group has pub- lished several papers on the aspects of single-lung transplantation, quality of life after lung trans- plantation, and nutritional status and energy following transplantation. M. Estenne is Professor of Medicine and Consultant Physician at the Chest service of the Erasme University Hospital, Brussels, Belgium. He is Medical Director of the lung transplant programme at Erasme Hospital. Initially, his research was focused on the physiology and physiopathology of the respiratory muscles, but he now leads a research group focused on the effects of transplanta- tion on chest wall mechanics and respiratory muscle function, and on the development of new tools that may contribute to the early detection of chronic rejection. He has published over 120 articles, reviews and book chapters. W. Weder is Professor of Surgery and Director of the lung transplant programme at the University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. Lung transplantation and surgery for emphysema are his main fields of research. He is author and co-author of over 150 original articles and many book chap- ters. M. Estenne W. Weder J.
